Women Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal is a non-profit organization, funded by the Nepalese Government to help implement village-based sustainalbe, women-based trade programs.
Himalayan Tea and Coffee Co. works with the W.E.A.N. cooperative developing women-based and women-trained cooperatives throughout Central Nepal.
Their office is located near the capitol city of Kathmandu. I visited their entirely women-run staff last November of 2005. They were energetic about the skill levels of the Nepali women, their artistic crafts were well-made, colorful and functional. The women weavers are some of the most revered within their society. These women can weave intricate fashionable shawls, as well as our bamboo baskets. These baskets take the skilled hands of a Nepali village women only minutes to complete. The source of the bamboo comes from the village sustainalbe cultivation programs of grasses, including bamboo.
The quality, as seen in the strength and durability of our handwoven baskets from Nepal is amazing…to think it was just woven by the hands of a women in Jhapa, Ilam, Hile, Gorkha, Ashrang, Nibel Chhoprak or Laprak. These are some of the potentials that cooperative markets offer rural village development in Nepal.
Please help us support W.E.A.N.
