Planting Botanicals in the Himalayan Mountains

During the months of February, March, April, May and June over 5,000 tree seedlings will be planted in Central Nepal as part of HTCC’s company mission to help re-forest and continue the botanical diveristy of the Himalayan Mountains.

List of botanical trees (many are used in traditional medicines)
Village Development Communities will plant in 2007:

  1. Rajbrichhe Tree (Cassia fistula) Widely known to aid general debility and fatigued muscles
  2. Berberis Tree (Berberis aristata) For blood purification, infused in traditional tea formulas
  3. Ashoka Tree (Saraca indica) Good for women, and men, too. Rejuvinating for uterus lining and strengthening prostrate
  4. Cinnamon Tree (Cinnamon tamala) Well-known for culinary uses and as spice for tea
  5. Montala Tree (Fortunella japonica) Sweetest citrus fruit known to humankind
  6. Triphala or Myrobalan Tree (Emblica officinale) One of three infamous Medicine Buddha herbs
  7. Triphala Tree (Termanalia chebula) Second of three infamous Medicine Buddha herbs
  8. Triphala Tree (Termanalia belerica) Third of three infamous Medicine Buddha herbs
  9. Himalayan Long Pepper Tree (Piper longum) Used in teas that help open respiratory passageways in lungs
  10. Himalayan Pine Tree (Pinus wallichiana) traded as a cash crop and to provide wood for their kitchen stoves
  11. Himalayan Coffee Tree (Coffea arabica var. Cattura) traded by local farmers as a cash crop and used to roast their own coffee beans
  12. Himalayan Palm Tree (Pandanus nepalensis) used as shade crop; fronds harvested to weave grass mats for eating and sitting.
  13. Purepure Timur (Zanthoxylum hamiltonianum)
