Helping Bring Improved Stovetop Technology to Nepal Farming Communities

Stovetop concerns in Nepal:

  1. Up to 1.6 million women and children die every year from breathing polluted air in their houses. Pneumonia and other respiratory diseases in children are caused by breathing smoke. (World Health Org., 1998)

  2. Deforestation has ravenged large areas of land in Nepal and other Himalayan countries, which host large tracts of the World’s botanical tree diversity.

For these two important reasons, both safety and conservation of natural resources, HTCC is launching a project to help establish “Rocket Stove” technology in several farming communities throughout Nepal. The advanced stovetop designs are going to be constructed with local materials whenever possible, making them truly affordable and sustainable for all farmers to participate. The transfer of technology will be acheived through first teaching a group of young men and women (of college age or older) who will host clinics in several remote farming communities in Central Nepal. HTCC will also help with building materials in the improved technology that are essential for their construction.
