*Defined by Fair Labeling Organization (FLO) BENEFITS OF Fair Trade
HTCC offers fairly traded goods through development programs in Central Nepal. We offer pre-harvest, interest-free loans to community cooperatives who cultivate and care for several sustainable crops of tea, herbs and coffee.
- This initial deposit or “seed money” allows many rural farming families, who do not have direct access to international or regional markets, fair trade prices and the economic incentives to help develop valuable infrastructure and tools prior to harvest season. It allows them necessary funds to be competitive in global commerce.

- Giving “seed money” to women’s Village Development Committees (VDC) helps continue vital traditions of herb and tea trades throughout the Himalayan Mountains by reinforcing traditional trading routes throughout Central Nepal and systems of regional environmental sustainability; these funds help with educating their children; it helps pay for building/rebuilding of schools and hiring full-time teachers for their classrooms.
- Pre-harvest loans are also given in the form of genetic material, such as germplasm, which gives opportunities to village sustainable farming families who need economic assistance at harvesting time, additional cash-crops that help care for their village communities.
